TAMPA — Parents with a family history of Type 1 diabetes may want to give their babies more bacteria — the good kind. A new study spearheaded by University of South Florida researcher Ulla Uusitalo found that infants who were given formula or other supplements rich in probiotics in their first 27 days of life were less likely to develop islet autoimmunity, a precursor to Type 1 diabetes.
